Former MLA Mickky Pacheco has criticized the Congress High Command’s decision to reappoint Girish Chodankar as president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), claiming that the move could further weaken the party in the state.
Expressing concern over the leadership decision, Pacheco pointed to the party’s recent electoral setbacks and a series of defections that have affected the Congress organisation in Goa. He alleged that the reappointment has led to growing dissatisfaction among sections of party workers and leaders.

According to Pacheco, the Congress leadership should focus on rebuilding the party’s grassroots strength and restoring public confidence rather than repeating past strategies that, in his view, have not yielded positive results.
The former legislator also stressed the importance of having a strong and effective opposition in Goa. He urged Congress leaders to concentrate on raising public issues, holding the government accountable, and presenting a credible alternative to the ruling establishment.
Pacheco maintained that strengthening the opposition should be the party’s immediate priority, especially at a time when people expect political parties to actively address concerns related to governance and development.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the Congress following recent organisational appointments and efforts by the party to consolidate its position ahead of future political contests in the state.
