Chimbel Villagers Issue 10-Day Ultimatum Over Unity Mall Site; Demand Removal of Fencing & Restoration of Wetlands

Residents of Chimbel have given authorities a 10-day deadline to remove fencing and restore wetlands allegedly affected by work linked to the proposed Unity Mall project. Villagers claimed that excavation activities were carried out in ecologically sensitive wetland areas, raising concerns about environmental damage and possible flooding and safety risks during the upcoming monsoon season.

Locals have also urged the village Sarpanch not to return the ₹1.5 crore licence fee paid by GTDC until restoration work is completed and community concerns are addressed. Residents said development projects should not come at the cost of fragile ecosystems and warned of further action if their demands are ignored.
