The mother of a pregnant teenager who was killed along with her unborn child in a high-speed crash in Ohio has called for the deportation of the Indian national charged in connection with the incident.

Annette Holmes, the mother of 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes, said she does not want 33-year-old Tarsem Singh to remain in the United States following the fatal crash that claimed the lives of her daughter and unborn grandchild.
Speaking to Newsweek, Annette Holmes said she would support Singh being permanently removed from the country. She stated that the family later learned Singh had initially entered the United States illegally and expressed her desire for him to be deported.
“Nobody should ever deserve to die while pregnant with their first kid,” Holmes said, adding that she no longer wanted Singh living in the United States.
According to family members, Singh was the father of Ashlee Holmes’ unborn child. Relatives told Newsweek that the teenager had attempted to leave the relationship on several occasions but was unable to do so.
The fatal incident occurred on February 16 when Ashlee was travelling as a passenger in a Range Rover Velar. Authorities said the crash happened after Singh allegedly failed to stop for law enforcement officers, leading deputies on a high-speed chase.
Police reported that the pursuit reached speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour. Citing an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report, Newsweek stated that the vehicle was initially recorded travelling at 79 mph in a 55 mph zone before accelerating to more than 120 mph during the chase.
Investigators said the Range Rover failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the centre line, collided with a Jeep, and rolled over multiple times. Ashlee was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and suffered fatal injuries. Her unborn child also did not survive.
Meanwhile, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against Singh. He has been indicted on several felony charges, including involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and aggravated vehicular homicide.
Singh remains in custody on a $1 million bond. Under US law, he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
