A 28-year-old man from Hyderabad was shot dead while reportedly delivering pizzas late at night in the US city of Philadelphia, leaving his family and the Indian community in shock.
The victim, identified as Anshul Kuncha, had been working as a pizza delivery executive in Philadelphia. According to family members, Anshul had completed a delivery shortly before he came under attack. He was allegedly shot multiple times in the fatal incident.
The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. Authorities are yet to determine how many assailants were involved or what led to the attack. Law enforcement agencies in the United States have launched an investigation into the incident.
Anshul’s death has devastated his family back in Hyderabad, who are awaiting answers as officials continue to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
The Indian Consulate in New York confirmed the death and said it was in touch with the bereaved family to provide all possible assistance.
“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Anshul Kuncha, an Indian national in Philadelphia, PA,” the Consulate said in a post on X.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time. The Consulate is in touch with Anshul’s family and is extending all possible assistance,” it added.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of delivery workers, many of whom work late-night shifts in unfamiliar neighbourhoods while pursuing studies or employment opportunities abroad.
As investigators continue their probe, Anshul’s family hopes those responsible will be brought to justice.
