The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a unique step to support young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi by requesting his parents to accompany him on upcoming tours to Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. The decision comes shortly after the 15-year-old earned his maiden call-up to India’s T20I squad.
Recognising that Vaibhav is still a minor and will be joining an adult international squad for the first time, the BCCI has made special provisions to ensure his comfort and well-being during the tours. If he makes his debut, Vaibhav could become India’s youngest-ever international cricketer, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of debuting at 16 years and 207 days.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explained that the board does not normally allow parents to accompany players on official tours. However, an exception has been made due to Vaibhav’s age and the need to help him adapt to the senior team environment.
Saikia said the board would support the youngster’s family if they wished to travel with him, adding that his father was already scheduled to accompany him to Sri Lanka. Similar support would be extended for the England tour if required.
Vaibhav’s rapid rise has been fuelled by outstanding performances in youth cricket and the Indian Premier League. His aggressive batting style and ability to handle pressure have made him one of the most exciting prospects in Indian cricket.
Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar praised the teenager’s performances, saying the youngster had effectively “picked himself” through consistent displays in the IPL and age-group cricket. Agarkar highlighted Vaibhav’s match-winning abilities and expressed confidence that he could become a game-changer for India in the shortest format.
The move reflects the BCCI’s commitment to nurturing one of the country’s brightest young cricketing talents.
