The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially declared the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026, bringing relief and excitement to thousands of aspirants across the country. With the announcement, the recruitment process for one of India’s most prestigious examinations has moved to the next stage.According to the commission, a total of 13,343 candidates have qualified for the Civil Services Main Examination 2026. The shortlisted candidates will now compete for 1,016 vacancies notified under this year’s recruitment cycle.The latest figures indicate a slight decline compared to last year.
In 2025, UPSC had shortlisted 14,161 candidates for the Mains examination against 1,087 vacancies. Despite the reduction in both vacancies and qualifying candidates, the competition remains intense as aspirants continue their pursuit of coveted positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and other central services.Candidates who have cleared the Preliminary Examination must now complete the Detailed Application Form (DAF) process and verify their details within the stipulated timeline. The commission has scheduled the registration and verification process from June 19 to June 28.
