VASCO: Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds late on Monday night uprooted several trees across Vasco and Mangor, disrupting power supply and causing inconvenience to residents in multiple localities.
According to officials, some of the fallen trees crashed onto electricity lines, prompting authorities to shut down transformers as a precautionary measure. The damage resulted in widespread power outages, leaving many households without electricity throughout the night.

On Tuesday morning, former city councillor Shami Salkar visited various affected locations and coordinated with personnel from the Electricity Department and Fire and Emergency Services to expedite the removal of fallen trees and restoration work.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar said that a pre-monsoon drive had been undertaken to identify and remove hazardous trees before the onset of the rainy season.
“We had conducted a pre-monsoon drive and removed several dangerous trees. Although the monsoon arrived later than expected, our efforts are ongoing. Last night, a few trees fell in Vasco and surrounding areas. Fortunately, no casualties were reported,” she said.
Salkar noted that the fallen trees caused damage to power lines, making it necessary to temporarily shut down transformers in certain areas to avoid further risks.
“Residents faced inconvenience due to the power outage throughout the night. Our teams have been working since morning to clear the fallen trees from roads and restore electricity supply at the earliest,” she added.
She also appealed to residents to report any weak or potentially dangerous trees in their neighbourhoods so that preventive action can be taken before accidents occur during the monsoon season.
“My humble request to the public is to inform us about any dangerous trees in their localities. Timely action can help prevent mishaps and ensure public safety during heavy rains,” Salkar said.
Authorities expect power supply to be fully restored once the debris is cleared and repairs to the damaged electrical infrastructure are completed.
