The Goa-based CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) is developing India’s first hybrid floating renewable energy platform off the state’s coastline, marking a major step forward in the country’s clean energy and offshore technology initiatives.
The innovative offshore platform will integrate five renewable energy sources—solar, wind, wave, tidal, and ocean current energy—into a single floating system. By harnessing multiple marine energy resources simultaneously, the project aims to maximise clean power generation while improving the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy production.
The proposed platform is expected to serve as a pioneering model for offshore sustainable energy, showcasing India’s growing capabilities in marine research and green technology.
Once implemented, the project is set to become a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy sector, strengthening scientific research, technological innovation, and the country’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable sources of power.
