South Goa MP Virato Fernandes Meets Konkan Railway GM Over Demolished Footbridge, New Bridge Assured

South Goa MP Captain Virato Fernandes, accompanied by Congress workers, met Konkan Railway General Manager Jorge Mathew on Monday to discuss the recent demolition of a footbridge by the railway authorities.

During the meeting, the General Manager clarified that the footbridge was demolished following a structural audit conducted by IIT Chennai, which found the structure unsafe for public use due to its deteriorated condition. He said the decision was taken solely in the interest of public safety and added that alternative arrangements had been made to facilitate commuter movement.

Mathew also assured the delegation that a new footbridge would be constructed at the same location in the coming days to restore connectivity for local residents.

Captain Virato Fernandes urged Konkan Railway to expedite the construction of the replacement bridge and ensure that the inconvenience caused to the public is kept to a minimum. The assurance of a new footbridge has brought relief to residents who depend on the crossing for their daily commute.
