Fifteen-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has fuelled speculation about his long-awaited senior India debut after sharing a cryptic post on social media ahead of the second T20I against England. The youngster posted an Instagram story with the caption “New Chapter”, prompting fans to believe he could feature in India’s playing XI.
Sooryavanshi has remained on the sidelines throughout the United Kingdom tour so far. He did not play in the two T20Is against Ireland and also missed out on the opening T20I against England, which was washed out after India’s innings.
Despite the growing excitement, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel urged patience over the teenager’s inclusion. Addressing the media before the match, Morkel stressed that the team management must continue backing established performers such as Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson rather than rushing a young player into the side.
Morkel highlighted that Abhishek entered the series as the world’s No. 1-ranked T20I batter, while Samson played a key role in India’s successful T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. He said it was important to show faith in players who have consistently delivered at the highest level.
At the same time, Morkel praised Sooryavanshi for adapting quickly to the international environment. The coach said the teenager had impressed everyone during training sessions and looked comfortable despite his young age.
With Samson enduring a difficult run of scores on the tour, speculation continues that India could hand Sooryavanshi his maiden international cap in Manchester. Although no official confirmation has been made, the youngster’s social media activity has only intensified the debate surrounding his potential debut.
