Indian cricket’s newest sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, has officially arrived on the international stage. The 15-year-old batting prodigy made his India debut in the second T20I against England in Manchester on July 4, becoming the youngest player ever to represent India across all formats.
At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi surpassed the long-standing record held by legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, who made his India debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days in 1989. The milestone marks another remarkable achievement in what has already been a record-breaking rise for the teenage star.
The left-handed batter earned his maiden T20I cap from Tilak Varma after replacing Sanju Samson in the playing XI. Samson’s string of low scores opened the door for Sooryavanshi, whose performances over the last two seasons made his selection almost inevitable.
The youngster first grabbed national attention during IPL 2025 before taking his game to another level in IPL 2026. He dominated some of the world’s finest bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada, finishing the season with 776 runs, the Orange Cap, the Most Valuable Player award, and a staggering 72 sixes.
His success wasn’t limited to franchise cricket. Sooryavanshi starred in the Under-19 World Cup with 439 runs, including a match-winning 175 in the final, before smashing a breathtaking 94 off just 29 balls in the India A tri-series final against Sri Lanka A, narrowly missing the fastest List A century.
His debut also places him among the youngest T20I debutants from Full Member nations, comfortably ahead of players such as Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir.
