Iran hits back after Trump’s ‘one-shot’ remark on Khamenei funeral

Iran has strongly criticised US President Donald Trump after he claimed he could eliminate the country’s top leadership gathered at the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in “one shot.”The remarks sparked an immediate response from the Iranian Embassy in Armenia, which accused the United States of lacking the values needed to understand the public mourning witnessed across Iran. In a post on X, the embassy said that despite celebrating 250 years of Independence on July 4, the US possessed “neither civilisation, history, nor honour.”The embassy suggested that while political leaders could be assassinated, their ideals would endure. Referring to Khamenei’s death in a US-Israeli airstrike on February 28, it said the attack had only strengthened the influence of his beliefs. “People can be killed, but ideals cannot,” the post read, comparing Khamenei’s legacy to the fragrance of a broken perfume bottle spreading everywhere.Trump’s comments came as thousands of mourners and foreign dignitaries continued paying tribute to Khamenei in Tehran. His body is lying in state before being taken through a week-long funeral procession covering Tehran, Qom, Najaf and Karbala ahead of his burial in Mashhad on July 9.
