According to Porvorim Police, the infant was born prematurely and had remained admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since birth. After showing signs of recovery, the child was discharged from the hospital on June 5.
On Monday, the infant was taken to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, for a routine medical examination before returning home with family members. Police said that after being fed milk later in the day, the child began experiencing breathing difficulties.
The family immediately sought medical assistance and contacted the 108 emergency ambulance service. The infant was rushed to Asilo Hospital in Mapusa, where doctors declared the child brought dead.
Following the incident, Porvorim Police registered an unnatural death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The child’s body has been preserved at the GMC morgue to facilitate further examination and determine the exact cause of death.
Police said the post-mortem findings and other medical reports will help establish the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death. Officials have not indicated any suspicion of foul play at this stage, and the investigation remains ongoing.
PSI Arun Shirodkar is leading the inquiry and is expected to record statements from family members and medical personnel as part of the investigation. Authorities said further action will depend on the outcome of the post-mortem examination and other forensic findings.
