NetEase Games and Starry Studio have announced that their popular free-to-play survival title Once Human will officially launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 25 (PDT). The console release will introduce several new features, including a first-person perspective, while also supporting cross-play and cross-progression from day one.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by mysterious anomalies, Once Human challenges players to survive in a hostile environment by exploring different “Scenarios,” each offering unique landscapes, objectives and gameplay mechanics. Console players will have access to six scenarios and a PvP spin-off at launch, providing more than 300 hours of gameplay.
Anomalies remain at the heart of the experience, serving as essential tools for exploration, shelter automation and combat. Players can harness these supernatural entities to navigate the Stardust-infected wasteland, craft equipment, defend themselves against dangerous enemies and even enhance their own abilities through mutations.
The biggest addition for console users is the First-Person Perspective, allowing players to switch seamlessly between first-person and third-person views at any point during gameplay. Designed to take advantage of large 4K displays, the new mode aims to offer a more immersive survival experience.
The console edition also features enhanced visuals, with players able to choose between Quality Mode, delivering 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, and Performance Mode, which prioritises smoother gameplay at up to 120 frames per second.
To further optimise gameplay, the developers have introduced controller-specific enhancements, including low-frequency vibration effects for giant monsters, adaptive trigger resistance during boss battles and tactile feedback when collecting loot.
With cross-platform multiplayer and shared progression across devices, Once Human aims to provide a seamless experience for both new and existing players when it arrives on consoles later this month.
