Fish vendors at the newly inaugurated Vasco fish market vacated their allotted premises and resumed selling fish outside the market on Tuesday, alleging that the facility has been inundated with drainage water, making it unsuitable for business.
The protesting vendors claimed that persistent drainage problems have created unhygienic conditions inside the market, forcing them to shift their operations outdoors until the issue is resolved.

Supporting the vendors, a Vasco Congress leader criticised Mormugao MLA Krisha Salkar and councillor Shami Salkar, stating that despite conducting nearly ten inspections of the market, they have failed to resolve the drainage problem.
The Congress has demanded that MLA Krisha Salkar immediately engage technical experts to identify and rectify the drainage issues within a week. The party warned that if the problem is not addressed within the stipulated time, it will launch a major agitation in support of the fish vendors, including blocking roads to press for immediate action.
The vendors have urged the authorities to resolve the drainage issue at the earliest so they can return to conducting business inside the market in safe and hygienic conditions.
