Social activist Mukundraj Mudras has lodged a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance, the Chief Secretary, the Power Minister and other senior government authorities, alleging that officials of the Electricity Department’s Division XI in Vasco-da-Gama failed to recover electricity dues amounting to several crores of rupees.
In his complaint, Mudras cited information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, claiming that outstanding electricity dues total ₹52.35 lakh in Sub-Division I (Urban Vasco), ₹1.66 crore in Sub-Division II (Rural Vasco), and ₹45.67 lakh in Sub-Division III (Mormugao).
He has alleged wilful negligence and suspected corruption on the part of the officials, contending that no disciplinary action was initiated despite provisions under the Electricity Act, 2003, that empower authorities to recover pending dues.
Mudras has urged the Directorate of Vigilance to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter and sought appropriate action against the officials found responsible for the alleged lapses.
