In a historic first, the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ will be sung during the Independence Day celebrations at the iconic Red Fort on August 15, with this year’s event focusing on the contribution of India’s youth towards building a developed nation by 2047.
The government announced the theme on Monday, highlighting the role of young Indians in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Addressing a press conference, Defence Secretary R K Singh said the decision to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the country’s youth had been planned well before the recent students’ protest at Jantar Mantar.
“Youths are a critical part of our journey towards Viksit Bharat because they will both be contributing to it and will be hopefully gaining from it,” Singh said.
He further clarified that the focus on youth at this year’s Independence Day celebrations was not linked to any recent event.
“The plan to celebrate the success and contribution of youth at the Independence Day celebrations predates any other event,” Singh said.
The celebrations at the Red Fort are expected to place special emphasis on the aspirations, achievements and role of young Indians in shaping the country’s development journey towards 2047.
