Around 28 people were reportedly working at the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd (THDC) project site in Pipalkoti when the sudden flow of water entered the tunnel. The powerful current swept several workers towards the tunnel’s exit, reports said.

The incident triggered an immediate rescue operation, with disaster response teams and local authorities working to locate those still trapped inside.

Local MLA Lakhpat Butola described the incident as deeply tragic and said the administration’s priority was to support the ongoing rescue efforts and those affected by the accident.

Rescue operations remain underway as authorities continue efforts to safely evacuate the remaining workers and assess the full extent of the damage at the project site.
