Chief Justice of India Surya Kant extended his Independence Day greetings to the people of India on Saturday, calling for the country’s continued progress while upholding democracy, the rule of law, equality and constitutional principles.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, CJI Surya Kant said India’s journey towards progress must remain firmly rooted in its democratic and constitutional values.

“Happy Independence Day. May our country continue to progress with strength, democracy, the rule of law, equality, and all our constitutional principles,” he said.
The Chief Justice also expressed hope for India’s future, urging the nation to move towards a stronger and brighter tomorrow.
“India, keep moving forward towards a stronger and brighter future,” he added.
His remarks came as the country celebrated Independence Day with events and ceremonies across the nation. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivered his Independence Day address.
The flag hoisting was accompanied by a 21-Gun Salute fired by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial). The ceremonial battery used indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns. Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat commanded the battery, while Naib Subedar (Assistant Instructor in Gunnery) Anuthosh Sarkar served as the Gun Position Officer.
Addressing the nation, PM Modi expressed confidence that India would achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He urged citizens to contribute towards the vision of a “Viksit Bharat”.
Modi described the ambition of a developed India as a national resolve and said the world was watching the country’s efforts and transformation.
Calling on citizens to aim higher, the Prime Minister urged them to “dream big”, saying ambitious goals can broaden people’s thinking and expand their vision for the future.
He said a nation can achieve its goals when it is driven by dreams, determination and its inherent strength. According to Modi, a firm resolve gives a country the ability to overcome challenges and find a way forward even during difficult circumstances.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the full rendition of Vande Mataram at the Red Fort for the first time since Independence, calling it a “historic moment” for the country.
Against this backdrop, CJI Surya Kant’s message focused on the constitutional foundations of India’s progress, with particular emphasis on democracy, equality, the rule of law and constitutional principles.
