Rohit Sharma has already started preparing for India’s upcoming ODI assignment against the West Indies, with the veteran batter putting in the hard yards at a training session in Mumbai.
Rohit shared pictures from his latest training session at the Mumbai Cricket Association facility in the Bandra Kurla Complex, north-west Mumbai. The 39-year-old was seen working on his fitness and batting alongside former Mumbai teammate Dhawal Kulkarni.
The session also included the Mumbai Indians’ strength and conditioning coach and physiotherapist, highlighting Rohit’s continued focus on maintaining his fitness ahead of the international assignment.
Sharing pictures from the session on social media, Rohit captioned the post: “Gang’s in, start work.”
The training session comes more than a month before India are scheduled to begin their three-match ODI series against the West Indies. The series is set to get underway on September 27.
Rohit’s early preparations will be closely watched as the former India captain remains an important part of the team’s ODI setup. Having retired from Test cricket and T20Is, Rohit’s international appearances are now limited to the 50-over format.
The Mumbai batter has continued to remain active away from international cricket, and his latest training pictures indicate that preparations for the West Indies series have begun well in advance.
Rohit’s association with Mumbai teammate Kulkarni also adds a familiar touch to the training session. The two played together for Mumbai during their domestic careers, while Kulkarni has also been part of the wider Mumbai Indians setup.
For Rohit, the upcoming West Indies series will provide another opportunity to contribute to India’s ODI campaign. His experience at the top of the order remains valuable for a team looking to build towards its next major 50-over commitments.
India’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies begins on September 27. The remaining matches will be played as part of the same tour, with the Indian team expected to use the series to assess its ODI combinations and build momentum for future assignments.
For now, Rohit appears to have wasted little time getting back into training. His message — “Gang’s in, start work” — offered a glimpse of the preparations already underway in Mumbai.
With the West Indies series still several weeks away, the early start could give Rohit valuable time to sharpen his fitness and batting rhythm before returning to international action.
