Air India has dismissed the pilot-in-command of a Phuket-Delhi flight after a preliminary investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) found his confirmatory dope test to be non-negative for a psychoactive substance.
The action follows an incident involving an Airbus A320, which suffered a rare failure of all three hydraulic systems during the flight. The incident left 24 people injured and caused significant damage to the aircraft’s cabin.

In its preliminary findings, the AAIB flagged the dope-test result and urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to take priority measures to prevent the use and abuse of psychoactive substances among aviation personnel.
The investigation into the aircraft’s hydraulic-system failure and the circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing. The AAIB’s recommendation is aimed at strengthening safety measures and ensuring strict compliance with regulations concerning psychoactive substance use in the aviation sector.
