PANJIM: South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes has assured the people that he will raise the issue of notifying the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve in Parliament.
Capt Fernandes criticised the current BJP government for disregarding the verdict of the High Court of Bombay at Goa, which mandated the declaration of the Tiger Reserve within three months in July last year. Despite the High Court’s directive, the State government has made no efforts to implement the order.

Capt Fernandes has now pledged to push the matter further at the Central level to ensure the establishment of the Tiger Reserve in the State.
Capt Fernandes was speaking at the Kids for Tigers event organised by the Sanctuary Nature Foundation at Agasaim on Monday. “It’s a matter of great pride that we have the National Animal in our forest. I interacted with the children, and they take great pride in saving our natural assets—our rivers, our forests, our biodiversity, our sea, and our land,” he said.
On the occasion, activities like nature trails, painting on saving tigers, face painting, and making tiger sculptures from waste were organised for the children.
