mapusa: 550 inmates including under-trial and convicts of Colvale Central jail protested and refused to have their meals on Thursday after the mess-in-charge failed to provide them with non-veg food.

Sources said the inmates have been served only veg food for more than a month.
Due to this, the inmates went on a hunger strike till 3.30 pm. They demanded that the mess-in-charge assures them in writing that they will be provided with non-veg food from Friday onwards, failing which they wouldn’t consume any food.
The authorities finally gave in to their demands.
