PONDA: Vincent Fernandes, councillor of Ponda Municipality Council (PMC), has accused the council of disposing garbage indiscriminately in a private property in ward 9.
Fernandes, who represents ward 9, claimed that on several occasions, PMC disposed garbage in the private property behind the Ponda vegetable market.
“After residents informed me of the incident a couple of months ago, I objected to garbage disposal in the private land. But to my surprise, even now garbage dumping is going on. Garbage dumped is certainly from PMC,” stated Fernandes.
“PMC must immediately stop disposing garbage in the open or else be ready to face the public wrath,” warned Fernandes.
Denying the allegation, PMC Garbage Committee President, Councillor Venkatesh Naik said it is incorrect to say that PMC is disposing garbage in the open land.
“We have machinery to scientifically treat garbage and there is no question of PMC dumping waste in the open,” said Naik.
