PORVORIM: The State government will reward 19 medal winners of Special Olympics at Berlin before Ganesh Chaturthi festival, informed Sports Minister Govind Gaude in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Replying to a starred question tabled by Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar regarding registration of sports associations in the State, the Minister said that the government had provided assistance to the contingent who participated in Special Olympics and brought laurels to the country by winning 19 medals including nine gold medals.

There are 137 registered sports associations while Disability Association of Goa is yet to be registered with the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), the Minister said adding that the Disability Association of Goa office-bearers have been requested to register it so as to avail the government assistance.
The MLA urged the government to provide better facilities to disabled persons so that they can participate and perform better in Paralympics.
