It may be recalled that the rivalry between the fish market vendors and migrant vendors (Lamanis) in Vasco has been going on for the last few weeks. Both the groups had even clashed on few occasions.
The traditional fish vendors from Vasco had earlier written to MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik, requesting him to initiate action against the migrant fish vendors, who were allegedly selling fish illegally on the roadsides at various places in Vasco in the evening.
On Thursday, a group of 50 traditional fish vendors marched to Naik’s office and questioned him on what action was being taken against the Lamanis. They also informed him that despite his assurance to take action against the Lamanis, the situation had never improved.
After giving them a patient hearing, Naik informed them that he had issued clear directions to the municipal inspectors to take action against all Lamanis found selling fish on the roadsides. He also disclosed that the Lamanis were operating after office hours, and thus, he would approach the Vasco police to initiate action against those involved in the illegal roadside sale of fish after office hours.
“If migrant fish vendors are found selling fish illegally on the roadside, strict action will be initiated against them. This time, we will ask the Vasco police to take action against the migrant vendors,” said Naik.
