PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) resolved to keep the starting bid at Rs 51 lakh for the tender to collect Sopo fees in the municipality.
“The decision was unanimously passed by all the councillors during the meeting and it will be implemented for the financial year 2013-14,” informed PMC Chairperson Rukmi Dangui.
It may be recalled that last year, PMC’s decision to collect Sopo fees by deploying its own staff backfired as the Sopo fees collected by PMC workers was much below the target revenue, prompting the council to award the tender to a private party.
The Sopo collection tender was later awarded for Rs 28.95 lakh for seven months (September 2012 to March 2013). The council had decided to collect Sopo fees by deploying its own staff as there were allegations that the Sopo fees collector was overcharging vendors.
The Sopo fees collection tender for the financial year 2011-12 was awarded to a private party for Rs 61.20 lakh.
The council has also resolved to restart the land acquisition process near the old bus stand for parking purpose.
The ruling councillors demanded transfer of the municipal engineer alleging misbehaviour with the PMC staff.
