CANACONA: Cyclonic wind and a brief spell of torrential unseasonal rains late Saturday night damaged a house at Poinguinim, causing a loss of over Rs 2 lakh.
According to Canacona fire service, a branch of a mango tree came crashing down on the house of Premavati Gosavi at Khalshi-Poinguinim, damaging the front portion of the house.
Fire personnel rushed to the site and helped the family to clear the tree branch. The loss is pegged at Rs 2 lakh.
The incident occurred after strong cyclonic winds swept the area with a brief spell of torrential rainfall.
Due to the sudden spell of strong winds, a coconut tree came crashing down at Galgibaga. However, no other damages or losses have been reported, informed sources.
On Sunday, an official of the Canacona Mamlatdar office visited the premises of Premavati Gosavi and conducted the panchama.
Sources informed that Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar also visited the damaged house and assured all help from the government to repair the house.
