PORVORIM: Several trees got uprooted on Saturday in the heavy rains that lashed Bardez taluka, causing disruption to traffic and loss of property.
The Mapusa Fire Station received 10 calls in connection with uprooting of trees at the Mapusa Sub Yard, District Hospital, Guirim, Kharaswado, Siolim, Housing Board Porvorim and other parts of the taluka.
According to fire officials, a tree fell on a car at the Mapusa Sub Yard causing damage of Rs 30,000, while a tree fell on electricity wire at Holy Cross in Siolim, disrupting power supply to the area.
A tree uprooted and fell on the house near the District Hospital at Mapusa, causing a loss of property of Rs 40,000, while a tree fell on the shed at Guirim and in another incident, a tree fell on the house at Kharaswado causing a loss of Rs 50,000.
Elsewhere, the Pilerne Fire Station received six calls on Saturday regarding uprooting of trees at Torda, Housing Board, Porvorim, Calangute and Nova Cidade colony, Porvorim. A tree also fell on a car at the Housing board, causing a loss of Rs 50,000 and trees also got uprooted and fell on the road near the Bank of Maharashtra at Porvorim and at Torda.
