Other than depiction of endless lies,
helplessness and hatred, ‘Eke Fottik Xembhor Fotti’ is a story of rejection,
denial, utmost resilience and blackmailing, with the backdrop of love and
family ties.
Due to malicious intentions before
tying the knot, Malaika (Rosy) dumps her lover Rio (Mario) and gets together
with Hansen (Lawry), a rich businessman. Back home after their honeymoon, Hansen
asks Malaika if she had a boyfriend before marriage and she answers with an emphatic
‘no’. But things get messy when Hansen introduces Rio to Malaika as his
business partner. Blackmailing sets in like a forceful undercurrent. Hansen’s
spouse is hapless as she is forced to do the unwanted to bury the truth.
On the other hand, Hansen feels sheer
resentment as his happy-go-lucky sister Ray (Aplon) falls for a poor brat Aron
(Franky). While Hansen would prefer his sister pairing up with Rio, that
connection would spell more horror for Malaika.
This entanglement of truths, lies and
relationships makes for good entertainment. Seasoned director Mario Menezes
recreates on stage the consequences of telling lies that leave many scarred and
remorseful.
As the events flow one after another,
the narrative holds the tiatr together. The director’s desire to highlight the after-effects
of lies runs on parallel tracks with the comic interludes entwined on the same
subject.
This time around, Mario delights in a
negative role while Lawry shines in his ‘ziddi’ character. Aplon and Franky
pair well for a fine performance. Rosy excels as the habitual liar while Sally
and Joana jam together for a laughter riot. Among several songs, Lawry
Travasso, Tony de Ribandar, Peter de Arambol, Rosy and Rioma’s solos stand out
with good morale.
