The arrest followed his failure to clear outstanding arrears of land revenue despite repeated notices and legal proceedings initiated by the authorities.
The North Goa Collector Sneha Gitte, IAS had issued an arrest warrant on January 30, 2024 directing the Panjim police to execute the warrant and hand over the defaulter to the Colvale Jail incharge.
The Panjim police tracked the location of the defaulter and arrested Moni near the
Porvorim junction.
The Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, mandates the timely payment of land revenue dues, and empowers the authorities to take stringent measures, including
arrest, for recovery of arrears. In this case,
the defaulter’s refusal to settle the pending
dues resulted in the initiation of recovery proceedings, culminating in their arrest.
