I may not be wrong if I say, pre-liberation Goa belonged to the original Goans, but post liberated Goa belongs to all, i.e. Indians, (new Goans), who came here to see, and experience life in Goa, fell in love and decided to settle here. These people are no other than the Gujaratis, Delhiites, Rajasthanis, Biharis, Uttar Pradeshis, Kannadigas, etc. You name it we have it.
For all this goodness, we have to give credit to our own people for their generosity, who allowed them to stay with us, by providing them their houses for a paltry sum of income/rent, some of them have cemented their relationship through the sacrament of marriage, many of our Goans have left for the UK for better prospects there, leaving behind non Goans to take care of their houses and belongings.
Who were the first politicians who sold large chunk of land to the Birla’s etc, Hurrah goemkara, where are you? Where are the people who fought for Goa’s freedom? If they did not have a vision for Goa and Goans then why did they fight for Goa’s freedom? Why did our freedom fighters or their legal heirs not keep control over the reins and protect Goa from being looted? Why did they not take political control over Goa and stop intruders conquer Goa? Our own people, who were elected to represent us and protect us, backstabbed us by selling Goa to outsiders.
We should have taken lessons from the people of Kerala who love their land more than anything, God bless them. Now many politicians will come out with slogans/nare saying “Save Goa, Save Goans, Save Goan culture” let us know that Goa is a gone case now.
Some people who regularly write letters need to be saluted as they have encountered real Goan issues and so they write on different topics and subjects. They have love for the well being of Goa and Goans, and so they make time and put efforts by writing letters to the editor so that wise politicians make note of it and improve by taking in from the advice and suggestions provided, but we have good for nothing politicians whose only vision is to destroy Goa in the name of development.
