3 bridges leading to Sanguem town neglected

Villagers from surrounding areas want new bridges to replace Uguem, Dando and Tariponto bridges to reach the town safely

It is quite interesting to note that the Sanguem town is literally sitting like an island with rivers on all its sides. While River Zuari flows towards Bendwaddo beyond which lies Orcotto, Tarimol and Dando wards of the Sanguem Municipal Council, Uguem River flows alongside Bamonsai ward beyond which lies the Ambdoi ward and finally Sanguem River flows towards Cotto beyond which lies Orcotto ward of the Sanguem Municipal Council.
Incidentally with rivers being surrounded on all its sides, people living beyond Sanguem town area have to make use of the bridges to connect the Sanguem town, which is the hub of all administrative activities and commercial establishments for the people living in Sanguem Taluka.
While those living towards Uguem, Bhati, Netravali, Kalay and Villian have to use the Portuguese regime Uguem bridge to reach the town; people living towards Nondurlem, Taripanto, Costi and Ambdoi have to use either make use of the Taripanto bridge or the foot bridge at Nondurlem to reach the town area, the people living at Temchowaddo use the footbridge at Temchowaddo and finally those residing at Dando, Orcotto and Kharkhatiaghati are at the mercy of the Dando bridge to reach the town area.
Ironically despite this being the scenario and with all the people from the taluka having to compulsorily use one of the bridges to reach the town area, there is utter negligence on the part of the Roads and Bridges department in undertaking regular maintenance work of these bridges.
The bridge at Taripanto, constructed a couple of decades ago, is found to be vibrating whenever any vehicle passes over it.
The Dando bridge, where the authorities had restricted the load carrying capacity to 30 tonnes, is also reportedly rendered weak. It is almost two years now since the survey for the construction of the new bridge at Dando was conducted by the Government.
Moreover given the very narrow condition of the footbridges, people also cannot take heavy vehicles and big four wheelers to their residences even if they own one.
There is an urgent need for the survey and load carrying capacity of all the bridges that connects Sanguem town and the people are eagerly awaiting for new bridges.
