PONDA: Classes at the Government Primary School at Mhalwada in Marcaim have been shifted to the school verandah, after the retaining wall at the rear of the school collapsed and damaged the school building.
The incident came to light on Friday and fortunately, no one was present in the school building when the incident took place.
Officials from the PWD, education department accompanied Marcaim Sarpanch Shailendra Panjikar and the deputy sarpanch to the site to take stock of the situation.
The Government Primary School has about 14 students and the incident was first noticed by the school sweeper on Friday morning. “When I reached the school, the sweeper told me about the incident. I soon contacted the officials concerned and they later visited the site,” informed primary school teacher, Poonam Dhabolkar.
According to information, the retaining wall collapsed on the school building, damaging the building structure. “The incident has damaged the school building and as a precautionary measure, students have been shifted in the school verandah. We will soon make some alternate arrangements so that classes can be conducted till the building is repaired,” informed Ward Panch Dilip Naik.
“I have requested the officials concerned to undertake the repair work as fast as possible,” added Naik.
