VASCO: Naval officials have blamed Mangor hill locals for the ganja plantation discovered few days ago on an unguarded land belonging to the Navy.
Blaming the Mangor hill locals for the ganja plantation, the officials said that the locals were not allowing them to build a boundary wall to guard their area and in that they are supported by the local administration.
Naval Flag Officer Goa Area (FOGA) Philipose Pnyumootil said, “The moment we came to know about the cannabis plantation in Naval area, we have got the place completely cleared. The land where this happened is an area under new construction of the Navy and is presently being looked after by the person developing it. The Navy is going to occupy the land once the buildings are completed. There are encroachments too on this land.”
Yet another official while speaking on this issue informed that the locals in the area are not allowing the Navy to build a boundary wall. “Their understanding is that it is their free passage from that area. We have been complaining to the authorities regarding this, hence it is not the question of Navy not looking after the land,” he said.
“There is trespassing that is happening on this land by public and it has been supported by the local administration. We are going to write to the government on this now,” said the Flag Officer claiming that this has been a long pending issue of the area.
It may be recalled that a person was arrested recently by the Vasco police for growing ganja in property close to the Naval limits. This property was said to be unguarded Naval property which brought the name of the Navy to the fore.
