MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday launched the work of installing 196 Closed Circuit Television Cameras in Fatorda constituency that will make it the first constituency to have such a network of cameras in Goa to protect the residents.
He also assured to bring in the necessary law to make it mandatory for housing co-operative societies to install CCTV cameras for security purpose. “Old housing societies do not have that system and these cameras are being installed to give them protection,” he said while pointing out to daylight robberies taking place in the constituencies.
Vijai thanked former Member of Parliament Shantaram Naik for taking up the project under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Fund and said Shantaram should be praised for taking up the project despite their political differences.
Entire Fatorda constituency will be covered by these cameras including the main Borda road, the area near the math. While 136 bullet cameras will be installed at 60 places PTJ cameras which are better than the dome cameras will be installed, revealed Balkrishna Prabhudessai who has bagged the tender to do the work.
Balkrishna said the work would take about two and a half months as nearly 46,000 meters long ditch will have to be dug up to lay the cables. “We have gone for underground cables because thieves very often cut the overhead cables which are at times also damaged by vehicles,” he said.
Vijai promised to set up the traffic signals at three other places in Fatorda constituency namely Arlem junction, KTC circle junction and at the Math junction. “Fatorda is getting liberated from the era of neglect,” he said while promising to really take Fatorda Forward.
“Ignore the people with negative mind set who always complain but think about the constituency and how it can be improved and together let us change Fatorda and take it forward,” he said while assuring that the present government is committed to save Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn.
Pointing out that the government has already exempted ethnic Goans constructing a residential house for their personal use from the infrastructure tax, he said the government was also considering offering incentives to companies that employ 80 per cent Goans in their establishments.
Two freedom fighters Tulshidas Malkanekar and Vasant Naik who were present at the function were honoured for their sacrifices.
