Mauvin flays activists for opposing legal projects

VASCO, JUNE 6
Criticizing the duplicity of certain environmental activists, Cortalim MLA Mauvin Godinho said certain environmental activists have no moral ground to oppose legal projects as they themselves are involved in illegal activities.
Godinho was addressing the gathering during note book distribution function at Chicalim Panchayat on Sunday morning.
Without naming any one, Godinho said: “That person has himself grabbed the children park at Chicalim for his commercial activities, thereby denying access to children from playing and he has no moral ground to oppose legal projects.”
He warned that panchayat and government would take up the issue aggressively to revert back the children park for playing activities.
“The people, who deployed heavy machinery for hill cutting earlier, have now turned to be the saviours of environment. Do they have moral ground to oppose the legal project of the government,” questioned Godinho.
“Where were these activists when entire Consua hill was cut down in a haphazard manner? I along with the villagers was the first to highlight the Consua hill cutting,” he said.
“These are the propaganda to misguide the people, who have faith in this government, in the name of saving environment by deliberately opposing government projects,” added the Cortalim MLA.
“We are concerned about the environment and to save the environment, for instance, we have built the St Jacinto Island Bridge to protect the ecology and environment,” said Godinho.
“People are with us, as it was evident during the recently concluded Zilla Panchayat election, as people have shown faith in our government,” added Godinho.
He, however, appreciated the recent demolition drive carried out by Chicalim Panchayat and claimed that few structures that were razed down were utilized for prostitution activities.
