CANACONA: Jagruk Canconkars who where on an indefinite hunger strike at the Canacona Municipal Council building premises over the unresolved issue of garbage treatment in Canacona ended their hunger strike after Goa Waste Management Corporation Managing Director Sanjit Rodrigues visited the striking activists and assured a time bound solution to the garbage dumped at garbage treatment plant at Dumane.
Rodrigues visited the fasting activists on Thursday and made the assurance after discussing with the activists their demand.
He also held a discussion with municipal Chairperson Chaya Soiru Komarpant, Deputy Chairperson Shyamsundar Desai, councillors, Chief Officer Raju Desai, municipal engineer and members of Jagruk Canconkars.
Outlining the plan of action, Rodrigues instructed the chief officer to replace the corroded galvanised sheets of garbage treatment plant (GTP) at Dumane within 15 days and also to hire a wheel loader to stack the garbage lying in different heaps into one mound with steep slope and cover with tarpaulin so that cattle and dogs stay away from the heap.
He directed removal of scrap dumped in the GTP and to make bails of the dry waste and send it to Cacoda treatment plant in the next couple of days. He also suggested laying a cement drainage pipe to make way for the water stream passing from the middle of the dump yard.
Satisfied with the action plan proposed by Rodrigues, the fasting activists ended the fast with Councillor Kishore Shet offering a sweet drink to one of the senior most fasting member and senior citizen Natividade De Sa.
Later, accompanied by the council members and members of Jagruk, Rodrigues visited GTP at Dumane and suggested to undertake the works in phases.
