PANJIM: Calangute Association registered a solitary goal win over Guardian Angel Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Selvel Goa Professional League, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
In the eight minute, from a set-piece, Gilbert picked up the tallest man in the box— Fulganco Cardozo, however, the latter’s header was collected by Calangute Association keeper Presley Mascarenhas with ease at the first post.
In the 20th minute, Calvin Bareto made a fine run on the left flank before cutting back in the area to two of their players in the box, however, it was Ganesh Thakur who pounced on the ball to slam it at the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Guardian Angel first half substitute Joaquim Abranches created an opportunity for his side soon after coming on when he whipped in a low cross from the left, which Fedrich failed to keep in the frame.
On seeing Shivam out of the frame, Calangute Association’s Frazer Viegas tried a shot from a distance, which narrowly sailed over the bar.
Soon after restart Calangute nearly doubled the lead when Godfrey sent in a curling delivery at the far post, but Chaitan couldn’t direct the ball into the frame. In the 50th minute, Guardian Angel SC keeper spilled Moises D’sa’s shot from outside the box, which was slammed in by Calvin. However, his goal was ruled out for an offside.
Guardian Angel SC were better in the second half and created plenty of half chances throughout. Abranches did his best to give his side some attacking teeth but the veteran striker lacked support.
In the 82nd minute, Guardian Angel keeper Shivam was at his best once again as he denied Vaibhav from a one-on-one situation.
