PONDA: The Ponda Sub District Hospital which commenced its operations in 2013 has been providing better medical facilities but the recent transfer of the orthopaedic surgeon has affected the hospital functioning.
The Hospital also lacks CT scan machine due to which citizens are forced to travel to GMC to avail this facility.
It is learnt that since last year there is no orthopaedic surgeon at the Hospital and as such no orthopaedic surgeries have been performed since 2015 year.
According to sources, the orthopaedic surgeon’s post has been vacant since 2016 till date.
According to Viraj Sapre, the Government should look into matter to fill the vacant orthopaedic surgeon’s post and equip the hospital with a CT scan machine.
When contacted, the hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Pradeep Shinkre said with available doctors we provide medical facilities and treat many ailments. There have been no complaints with regards to treatment.
In 2013, he said there were total 99,520 OPD cases, which rose to 1,51,354 cases in 2016. The number of lab investigation cases which was 47,265 in 2013 has now increased to 109369 cases. Number of deliveries performed in 2016 was 793 while The number of X rays were 7608. Dog bite cases reported in 2015 were 683 which later shot to 805 in 2016.
Beside this, time-to-time maintenance work has been undertaken to repair toilets and replace fans etc.
When asked about shortage of orthopaedic surgeon, he said there is need of orthopaedic doctor and the Directorate of Health Services has assured to provide the same as soon as possible.
