MARGAO: The village panchayat of Ambelim at its gram sabha convened on Sunday, resolved to send final notices to the defaulting shop keepers who have failed in paying rent.
Sarpanch Loreta Martino D’Silva promised that as per the gram sabha demand, the notice shall be sent on July 24 to the defaulters and after 7 days if they fail to pay the rent, then an inventory would be carried out so that the shops could be re-auctioned. Gram sabha members also expressed their grievances over there being no full time panchayat secretary, which the villagers claimed has been a cause of great inconvenience.
Local MLA Benjamin Silva was also present at the Sunday gram sabha. Sarpanch D’Silva informed the villagers that the Deputy Sarpanch Tyron Evagelist Fernandes, had met the panchayat minister and put up the grievance of villagers before him. The sarpanch informed that with the exception of Calangute village panchayat, no other panchayat in Goa was given a full-time secretary in the recent past. However she promised to send a reminder to the government in respect of the demand for a full-time panchayat secretary.
