‘Airport row will make no difference at Lok Sabha polls’

MARGAO: Swearing by Dabolim airport, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Thursday said that the issue of the proposed airport at Mopa is on the backburner or rather “gone into deep slumber” and people should stop talking about it.
“I have made myself clear that I am for Dabolim airport. There’s no need to talk about Mopa. I have brought Rs 500 crore from the centre and money will not be a problem if additional funds are required for Dabolim’s further upgradation and development,” he told the media during his visit to the District Collectorate, South, on Thursday.
Saying that the airport row will not be an issue in the coming Lok Sabha polls, with people supporting only Dabolim, Sardinha said, “On my part, I am for Dabolim airport. The airport will remain and will be further developed. Mopa is now sleeping, Let the state government look into it.”
Meanwhile, the South Goa MP has said that he has utilised funds under the MPLAD scheme for aided schools by providing computers, projectors etc., for the benefit of schools. “I will ask for additional funds since my funds for aided schools are exhausted,” Sardinha said, while expressing his unhappiness over the slow place of implementation of works proposed under the MPLAD scheme in South Goa.
He reiterated his demand for permission at two places in North and South Goa for sand extraction to genuine persons involved in the activity.
“Can any development take place without sand?” he sought to know, and said the Parrikar government
is there only to create scarcities.
