Goa has entered into an agreement with the UID Authority of India (UIDAI), under the Planning Commission, Government of India.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UID Authority of India and Government of Goa in the distinguished presence of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat at Secretariat, Porvorim today.
The memorandum was signed by Anand Sherkhane, Joint Secretary (Budget) on behalf of the Government of Goa and Sanjay Joshi, Additional Director General UID on behalf of the Planning Commission, Government of India.
Those present on the occasion included Chief Secretary, Sanjay Srivastava, Finance Secretary, Uddipta Ray, Secretary, Civil Supplies D C Sahoo, Secretary GA, Kumarswami, Jt Secretary (DM), Anapum Kishore, Director Information Technology, Pravin Chandekar, State Informatics Officer, Anand, Joint Director (Planning), V B Saxena, Jt Secretary (GA), J B Bhingi and others.
The allotment of Unique ID number to each citizen of India has been a very ambitious and unique project of the Government of India. Under the project each citizen will be allotted a unique identification. The unique identification include three biometric variables i.e. finger prints of both hands and images of iris and face. The demographic variables include name, age, address and father’s name.
In order to ensure the full coverage, major departments in the Government of Goa dealing with the major beneficiary oriented schemes will be designated as Registrars and are considered to provide major push in the success of UID project.
Earlier a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava in the conference hall of the secretariat.
Speaking on the occasion, Srivastava appreciated the said project of the Government of India and emphasized his desire to make Goa first amongst all the states to have such a project completed by covering each and every citizen of Goa. S Sanjay Joshi, Additional Director General, UID, Government of India highlighted the important aspects of the said project and requested for the support from the State Government.
The meeting was attended by Secretaries of Government of Goa, Director Census Operations, State Informatics Office, NIC-Goa Unit, Directors of Major department who participated in an interactive session with Sanjay Joshi.
