PANJIM: Percept Live, which has proposed to host the Sunburn Electronic Music Festival’s (EDM) in Goa this December, is expected to contribute Rs 1,000 crore to the State’s economy besides generating employment.
An official representing the Mumbai-based company said at the time of its exit from Goa over three years ago, Sunburn’s direct contribution to the Goa’s economy stood at close to Rs 700 crore and this year, its contribution might touch Rs 1,000 crore.
“Besides generating employment and creating an entire ecosystem, our contribution was around Rs 700 crore in 2016 year. Apart from putting Goa on the world map as a preferred dance music tourism destination, Sunburn benefitted and supported local businesses including hotels, F&B, travel, shopping and transport. The Sunburn Festival Goa 2019 is expected to contribute close to Rs 1,000 crore to the Goan economy in addition to generating employment, driving the local small and medium enterprises economy,” he said in a press release.
Sunburn organisers have proposed to hold the event at Vagator from December 27 to December 29, 2019. The statement comes even as Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said in the House on Wednesday that the government has not granted permission to EDM in 2019-2020 financial year.
Sunburn Klassique Events owned by Shailesh Shetty will be co-promoting, representing and managing the event. Speaking to the media, he said, “It took a lot of effort to convince Percept to shift the destination of the December festival but the recent mega success of the Sunburn Klassique event held in February in Goa was the clincher.”
