The exhibition
celebrating Museum Week 2019 was inaugurated at the old Secretariat (Adil Shah Palace), Panjim,
on January 7, 2019 in the presence of Chief Architect of the PWD Department
Marvin Gomes, Director of Museum Radha Bhavi and Secretary Rupesh Kumar Thakar.
The event will carry on till January 11, with different activities taking place
through the week. People are welcome to have a glance at the historic depiction
and simultaneously participate in the sub events.
The event includes a
drawing competition taking place, where primary students from schools over
Tiswadi area will be participating.
Goa is known for its
explicit beauty and remarkable architecture. Legendary and influential Goans
who have excelled in various fields along with freedom fighters has been
surveyed by the members of the committee. The facts and photographs of their
original homes have been compiled and framed on the walls of Adilshah Palace.
The central motto for culling this theme was to familiarise public on their
originality bases and the lifestyles that these great Goans lived. The research
was indeed immense in finding the original home of Abbé Faria, which is known
to be the oldest house constructed. Some other eminent Goans featured were
Dipaji Rane, Dada Rane, Dada Vaidya, Fr Agnel, Kesarbai Kerkar, Luis de Menezes
Braganza, Antonio Franscisca Xavier, Shennoy Goembab, T Braganza Cunha and B B
Borkar.
Explaining the
purpose behind the innovative topic of this year, Director Bhavi expresses,
“Few or in fact none are aware of the houses that these significant people
lived at, hence, it was a keen interest to focus on the them as well heir
hometown.” The theme also views the architectural and ecological perspective.
With regard to the main subject ‘Houses of Eminent Goans’, on
January 8, the committee invited Architect Noah Anand Fernandes (Assistant
Prof. Goa College of Architecture) to present a lecture on ‘Conserving the
Cultural Landscape along the River Mandovi’.
A program on the topic ‘Ghar: Mujyah
Manatle’ will be held on January 10 from 4 pm to 6 pm in the premises itself as
part of the Museum Week. Poems, storytelling and discussions will be a part of
the program.
Architect Noah’s keen interest lies
in studying cultural landscapes. Completing his Masters in Architectural
Conservation from ‘School of Planning and Architecture’, New Delhi in 2017,
Noah has worked on several theises, studying the biodiversity structure and
natural setting of Goa. Intellectual concepts like Goa’s biodiversity
structure, topography types, natural setting, and village structures during
Portuguese period, and drafts of maps in the ancient age were primarily
discussed. The lecture was attended by students and few visitors.
Many people
are oblivious about specifics like these due to new architectural settings and
large industries occupying Goa. The Directorate of Museum has opened doors to
people in having a cordial time visiting he exhibition.
