After eight years, myriad subplots and numerous contenders to the Iron Throne, American
fantasy drama television series ‘Game of Thrones’, which has a fan following
across the globe, has finally come to an end. The series wrapped up with a
six-episode final season that went by at breakneck speed and, as some say,
haphazard conclusions to various character arcs. The fan base in Goa too is
left with mixed emotions

The last season was not really up to the
mark as compared to the previous seasons. We have had better. But I’m not
utterly disappointed as although not a great one, this season had its moments.
Whatever happened in the last episode had been predicted, so there wasn’t
really an element of shock, which used to be the characteristic of GoT.
However, direction was amazing. I do believe that it could have been much
better. I think as a fan of the series, I have made my peace with the ending.
Whether you liked the end or did not, the journey was beautiful and left me in
tears.

PRAJAKTA JOSHI, Old Goa
The script writer definitely played with
our feelings with so many twists and turns. The finale got me by surprise as I
didn’t expect the ending. I had no problems with the pacing. In fact, the first
half of the season was great, but after ‘The Long Night’, everything went
downhill. I felt like where the characters ended up did not match with their
journey along the way. Despite this, I absolutely enjoyed the show to the
fullest and highly recommend everyone to watch it.
SHANE HENRIQUES, Magor, Vasco-da-Gama
Season 8 was going great till ‘The Long
Night’ episode. I wanted more episodes on the White Walkers; their story ended
really fast. I’ve been a Khaleesi fan as she went through a lot and deserved
that Iron Throne. But in one episode, they make her mad and everything is over.
Jaime and Cersei deserved a more memorable ‘death scene’. These were characters
we watched for seven years. My two favourite scenes in the finale were Drogon
burning the throne and Ghost and Jon’s reunion. It was all totally unexpected
but that’s what you get from George R R Martin.
NINOSHKA ANDRADE, Benaulim
The final season definitely got off to a good start but got
rocky towards the middle. The rushed episodes, ignorance of time frame and
editing errors had fans fuming. Nevertheless, the show maked up with its
emotional connections and battle scene aesthetics. Although there were no
surprises, the final episode was a chilling one. It’s wonderful to see how far
the characters have come. I was content when I saw Jon pat Ghost.
DIANA FONSECA, St Estevam
The ending reflected the failed writing of
David Benioff and D B Weiss. It ended well but the hurried, lazy writing caused
loopholes and spoilt character arcs. The hard work of the production team, CGI
team, DOP, actors, director and crew is wasted if the writing is bad. Many of
the prophecies were rendered pointless and ignored without a payoff. It was a
major disappointment for hardcore fans. ‘Game of Thrones’ never does justice to
the good men.
PURTI SAVARDEKAR, Dhawli-Ponda
Season 8 was a bit disappointing. I expected more drama. Cersei
did not deserve that easy death. It should have been more brutal; I expected
Dany or Arya to kill her and not have her die under some bricks. Also, I
thought Jon Snow would be king. But anyway, I have accepted it and moved on.
This ending also wasn’t bad but I really wanted Cersei to suffer. My favourite
character was Arya, so I’m sad that I won’t be seeing her anymore. I really
liked her character.
