You can have different reasons to visit Socorro this weekend but be assured not to leave
the Socorro church grounds on an empty stomach. With stalls selling the best
varieties of bread at the Poderanchem Fest, people were seen enjoying the
freshly baked bread with different gravies and curries. Where else can you find
kalchi koddi with surreche pao? Yes, Surreche pao are back
on the menu and are for sale at this festival. From 5pm onwards, the bread
stall opens with a combination of kheema with katre pao, choris with
pao, tea with kanknam, sanna with sorpotel and chonne
ros with poie. Decorative breads are also on display.
The
other half of the ground is occupied for the Zaddacho Utsav. There are
stalls set up by nurseries from different parts of Goa. Anthony Lobo from
Pomburpa has on display a huge variety of flowering plants that need the bare
minimum of attention and are ideal for apartments. An entire stall is dedicated
to the coconut tree with coconut sugar, coconut jaggery and other coconut
products including the tasting of the sweet freshly extracted coconut toddy.
The Green Essentials stall has manure and seedlings of different vegetables and
even strawberry plants on sale.
The live sessions on
the first day included women joining the ghumott workshop conducted by
Pandurang Phaldessai and four musicians, followed by a weaving workshop. Bond
Braganza took centre stage to share his family history. The festivities will
continue and on the last day, musicians are requested to join in with their
musical instruments at 6pm for a jamming session.
