The annual feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated with great pomp and fervour
on May 27, 2018 at Sacred Heart of Jesus chapel, situated on the hillock in
Curdi village in Sanguem taluka.
Rev Fr Tadeu Silva, Parish Priest of Miracle Church, Sanguem was
the main celebrant for the Eucharistic celebration with Parish Priest of Sacred
Heart of Jesus Church, Vaddem, Sanguem Fr Glen D’Silva, Fr Joaquim Rebello, Fr
Joaquim Fernandes, Fr Americo Rodrigues and Fr Jose Vaz.
Stressing on unity and love in the family, Fr Americo said that
prayers, love, patience and understanding are necessary to maintain peace and
unity in the family.
After the Eucharistic Celebration was the adoration of the image
of Sacred Heart of Jesus, followed by snacks to mark the occasion.
According to Parish Priest of Miracle Church Fr D’Silva, who had
served at Vaddem church, the villagers from Curdi were asked to vacate their
residences in 1985 as their village would be submerged under the water of
Salaulim dam. They were then relocated to Vaddem village.
“Due to their attachment and memories of the place, the
villagers decided to visit Curdi once a year and pray at the site where the
chapel and school dedicated to Sacred Heart of Jesus once existed,” informed Fr
D’Silva, adding that in 2010, the villagers built a small chapel there and
every year on the last Sunday of May, the feast is observed with a solemn Eucharistic
Celebration.
During
the summer season, the water level of the dam goes down and the way to tread
within the dam becomes clear; many local and foreign tourists visit the site
and enjoy the ethereal beauty of the resurfaced village.
