Sartaj Singh and Ganesh Gaitonde are just two of several characters one was introduced to in
‘Sacred Games’, which was aired on Netflix in 2018. The complexity of the
characters and the attention to detail paid to all aspects of the series made
it stand out. The characterisation and the performances given by all the actors
added to the lustre of the show.
The season finale of ‘Sacred Games’ was
full of twists and turns. One finally saw the link between Gaitonde and Sartaj
Singh’s father, wherein the latter was just a helpful prison officer who helped
the gangster with food and water during his torturous stay under lockup. Sartaj
Singh, in his pursuit, was caught and tied right in front of the mysterious
man, who is now revealed to be a key player of the upcoming attack, supplying
weapons in trucks commissioned by the Union Home Minister. Mumbai Police
officers track down Singh’s location and take over the location that is filled
with arms and ammunition. While being questioned by NSA agents, the Union Home
Minister reveals little but his comments to Parulkar later hint at a religious
war brewing in the background. As the season ended, Sartaj Singh was trying to
connect the missing pieces of the puzzle and a discourse by a godman on TV,
which helps him to locate a secret hideout that houses materials required to
carry out a nuclear blast.
Pretty heavy stuff, you will agree. For the legion of fans out
there desperate to learn the answers to these questions, August 15 cannot come
any faster. Aniket Naik says he intends to watch all the episodes in one
sitting. “Last year, I switched on my computer and watched the episodes from
morning till late in the night. It was very satisfying. This time around, I
have added motivation as my childhood friend Dino Shankar is the Art Director
for the season; I will be flying down to Goa to specifically watch it with him.
We are now both based in Mumbai. It should be a great experience because they
have also gone to different locations in different countries.”
Nolan Lobo does not have a Netflix connection but intends to buy
one soon. He watched the first season with friends and is hooked. He’s looking
forward to watching the second season.
The character of Gaitonde has caught the fancy of several people
and Apoorv Naik is one such fan. He says, “The way they left us at the
cliffhanger was tremendous. I love the series but I will not be able to watch
them all in one go unlike some people I know. I plan on watching one episode a
day and will take a week to finish the show. There has never been anything like
this in Hindi entertainment so far.”
Many believe this is possibly the best ever web series ever
made. Mandar Rajadhyax belongs to this school of thought. He is certainly
looking forward to watching the second season of the series. He says, “The
attention to all the characters and the level of acting is just phenomenal. The
series ended on a cliffhanger and left us dangling with several questions
including the important one: Why is Trivedi underground? They have introduced a
couple of new characters to the series as well. I am certainly looking forward
to watching the next season in full.”
Perhaps
one could end with Paranali Naik who says, “I will watch it all in a day or
two. I am dying to watch the second season. I have never seen anything like
this before. The detailing is phenomenal and I love that.”
