Born to dance, Gaysil Naubert honed her talents training in
western classical, ballet, jazz, tap, salsa, flamenco and contemporary dance.
It was a talent that was soon to find favour with Bollywood and a dance
sequence with none other than actor Hrithik Roshan, who is famous for his
exceptional dancing skills. It seemed like the ultimate magic moment just as
the song title indicated ‘It’s Magic’ in the film ‘Koi Mil Gaya’. She went on to
join Aftab Shivdasani in ‘Muskaan’ and other films, which spanned the Kannada
and Tamil film industries, either as item dancer or singer.
But her biggest break yet which will project her into the
big league is the forthcoming ‘Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai’ directed by the renowned
Oscar nominated filmmaker Kumar Raj. “I will be choreographing and dancing as a
main lead in the song. I have my own company dancers so I am planning to have
around 40 dancers. We are scheduled to shoot in the month of September in Mumbai,”
avers Gaysil of the movie which is currently being shot across nine countries.
“I am going to be conceptualising and styling the entire song, right from
lights to sounds to costume. We have been given the track by T Series,” she
reveals.
Incorporating at least six to seven dance styles, Gaysil
will infuse it with the traditional ‘mallkhamb’ steps. “Mallkhamb was used in
one or two films but they had called international dancers to do intricate poll
work and used Malaika Arora to poll work on the ground. In this film, I am
going to be doing very graceful and acrobatic moments on the pole,” she adds.
Recalling how she qualified for the film, Gaysil says,
”Filmmaker Kumar Raj approached me for a concept-based special number in his
film ‘Yahan Ameena Bikti Hai’ and I was kicked about it and immediately agreed
to be a part of the peppy number. He wanted someone who could carry it off well
and I was his ultimate choice,” she enthuses.
Tracing her roots back to Goa where her father was born and
brought up in Siolim and mother in Cuncolim, Gaysil’s initial introduction to
films was theatre. After several successful tours in Europe and the United
States as a theatre artist, Gaysil gave vent to her other talent – singing,
getting her first break from BMG Crescendo as a lead singer in an all-girl
band. The album was without a doubt a roaring success. Lending her talents as a
vocalist, dancer and choreographer as well as model for various lifestyle
events, Gaysil has finally arrived at the threshold of stardom.
